UNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA)

By purchasing a CSA membership with JPL Homestead, you are entering into a partnership with our farm for the growing season. Unlike purchasing from a grocery store, you are sharing in both the bounty and the risks of farming.

WHAT YOU'RE AGREEING TO

When you join our CSA, you understand and agree to the following:

**The Nature of Farming**
- We grow food using regenerative, no-spray practices in Eastern Virginia's climate
- Weather, pests, disease, and other factors beyond our control affect crop yields and quality
- Some crops may fail entirely, while others may exceed expectations
- This is the nature of agriculture, and you accept these inherent risks as a CSA member

**What We Promise**
- We will use our best efforts, knowledge, and care to grow healthy, abundant food for you
- We follow JM Fortier market gardening methods and regenerative practices
- We will communicate honestly about what's happening on the farm
- We will provide you with a farmer's-choice selection of in-season vegetables each week based on what's actually thriving

**What We Cannot Promise**
- We cannot guarantee specific vegetables in any given week
- We cannot guarantee specific quantities (though we aim for consistency)
- We cannot guarantee that every crop will succeed - crop failures are part of farming
- We cannot control weather, pests, disease, or other acts of nature

**Box Contents & Substitutions**
- Your weekly box is "farmer's choice" - we harvest what's ready and at its peak
- You may receive more of certain items and less of others based on growing conditions
- Substitutions are limited; we cannot accommodate individual preferences for specific vegetables
- Variety and quantity will vary throughout the season (spring, summer, and fall have different crops)

**Missed Pickups/Deliveries**
- You are responsible for picking up your share during designated times, or being available for delivery
- We cannot offer refunds or credits for missed pickups/deliveries
- If you need to skip a week, contact us in advance - we'll do our best to accommodate but cannot guarantee make-ups

**Payment & Commitment**
- CSA payments are non-refundable after January 1st (see our Refund Policy)
- Your commitment allows us to plan, plant, and grow for the entire season
- This is a season-long partnership, not a week-by-week transaction

**Communication**
- We'll send occasional emails with farm updates, pickup reminders, and harvest forecasts
- You can contact us at jplhomestead2022@gmail.com with questions or concerns
- We value open communication and want you to feel connected to your food source

**The CSA Spirit**
- You're not just buying vegetables - you're supporting regenerative agriculture in your community
- You're partnering with us through the ups and downs of a growing season
- You're investing in healthy soil, clean food, and a more sustainable food system
- In good years and challenging years, you're part of the JPL Homestead farm family

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by law, JPL Homestead's liability is limited to the amount you paid for your CSA membership. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from crop failures, delivery issues, or other farming-related circumstances.

ACCEPTANCE

By completing your purchase, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms.

Questions? Contact us at jplhomestead2022@gmail.com - we're always happy to talk about what CSA membership means.
